YAY for francis
p. francis r. is a kind gentle soul and possesses many beautiful qualities. that is one funny looking word.
today in accounting the teacher read off all of the class's names to assign them into these retarded random groups for 25% of our grade. anywho some names were cut off due to length, and she would jsut say half their last names. thats kind of funny. what was funnier was that she said my whole name
Bright Eye's "Road to Joy" off of I'm wide awake, It's morning is somewhat cool consdering its history. Its undeniably tied to Beethoven's 9th symphony. the song owes its name to the poem "ode to joy" that beethoven set to music in his 9th symphony. Bright Eyes modifies beethoven's powerful melody. Beethoven's 9th is widely considered to be one of the greatest works ever created. The colors of the symphony are amazing, but it is all executed from a extremely simple melody. The melody is uniquely simple due to the fact that its mostly stepwise. BE slightly changes this melody changing the first sequence to start on the tonic instead of the 3rd note of the scale. Otherwise its mostly the same. BE even preserves Beethoven's opening key of D Major.
Road to Joy opens with a simple statement of the melody, which is what ludwig does in his first movement. ludwig presents his melody a few times in repition and BE does no different.
After introducing his slghtly altered theme, a military drum cadence can be heard in the background. I think this was a coincidence but a parallel nonetheless exists. After Beethoven presents his melody in the first movement, the 2nd movement is a scherzo in military style.
Then like beethoven, BE reinforces his melody paralleling the 3rd movement.
Beethoven's 9th is famous for its awe inspiring ending, the 4th movement. BE's Road to Joy is far from awe inspiring, however it still makes an attempt at mimicking beethoven's greatest work. When senor conor goes "lets fuck it up boys make some noise" the background music becomes loud and somewhat disordered, perhaps BE's attempt at a fugue, which is what opens the 4th movement. A fugue is written in counterpoint, kind of like a bunch of people doing their own thing but it all comes together. As you all should know, Beethoven's 9th ends with a the powerful chorus where the full orchestra is going strong and the choir is seeing beautifully energetically, which i guess is what Conor yelling and the band being kinda loud is.
yeah i just wanted to say BE's road to joy is a beethoven ripoff. :D song's not even that great, its alright shows that conor is still pretty pompous. however i do like... first day of my life
its hard for me to think that BE thought this all out and did it, but i dunno... too many coincidences?
wheeeee
